The FSDB Career Development Department selects a Student Employee of the Month each month. Students in the after-school campus work program will be chosen based on their excellent work ethic in their respective paid positions on campus after school.
For March, we are recognizing Deagan Day, a junior in the Blind Department who works as a Recycling Associate. Here is what his supervisor, Joyce Holliman, had to say about Deagan:
Deagan is a wonderful student worker. When it comes to getting the job done, he goes exceedingly over what is required of him. His personality is always pleasant, and he is very independent and productive. Deagan is always willing to learn new tasks, and he often helps out others when needed. Deagan stays focused while on the job, and hands down, he is one of the best student workers that I have ever had. When it comes to exchanging recycling bins, fast walking, lifting with strength, safely orientation on the worksites, Deagan Day is the man for the job.
I wanted to work as a Recycling Associate because it seemed like it would be fun and I enjoy work like that.
There have been times when I have had to take off work to study.
You should actually do your job and show up. Do not lie about your abilities, and be a reliable worker.
Nothing really; it's not too hard.
I like being able to exercise, walk around, and see all of the different buildings on campus.
I plan to go to a trade school or a regular college. I think I would study marketing in college or if I went to trade school, I would study diesel mechanics or construction.
That's a hard question, I like food. Probably seafood.
I would want to meet Ronnie Mack, he's a motocross racer because he seems like a really cool guy. I think it would be cool to tell him that there's a blind kid out there who supports and thinks he's cool. I am saving up to buy a motorcycle.
Mind reading because I could win a lot of bets that way.
About the After School Campus Work Program
The FSDB After School Campus Work Program provides additional Career Development opportunities to FSDB students (16+) through a structured campus work program delivered outside the academic day. Students 16 years of age or older will have the opportunity to apply for vacant positions. Students go through a competitive hiring process. They review job postings that include a detailed job description, essential functions, and qualifications.

The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind is a tuition-free state public school in historic St. Augustine, available to eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf/hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deafblind.
