Success Stories: Sarah Emanuel

In Sarah’s favorite baby picture, she’s wearing a chef hat. She’s always loved the kitchen. During her time at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind (FSDB), she learned how to transform her passion into her career: a thriving bakery called Deafinitely Delicious.

Sarah attended FSDB from kindergarten through 12th grade. In high school, she took Culinary Arts as an elective. She wanted to be a culinary chef. In class, she learned about food prep, food science, and cooking techniques. She also discovered what she really loved: baking.

"One day, I decided to make a cake for my family. I loved it. Over time, I developed a passion for baking."

In addition to Culinary Arts class, Sarah worked in the Dragon’s Lair Café, a student-run restaurant. Students prepare the menu, cook the food, and assist customers. Here, Sarah applied her skills.

She shares, "I gained experience managing money and working quickly. I learned how to navigate a kitchen. It prepared me to open my own business."

And that she did! After graduating, Sarah opened Deafinitely Delicious, a home-based bakery specializing in custom cakes. She already has a strong following on social media. To date, she has made hundreds of cakes.

Sarah says, "I encourage other Deaf people to follow their dreams. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do something because you’re Deaf."

You can see more of Sarah’s cakes on her Facebook page, Deafinitely Delicious.
